From August 9th until September 20th 2018, DNB’s Art Gallery hosts the exhibition ‘Margriet Luyten & de kunstbemiddelaars’. In this exhibition, Margriet Luyten shows the film Levenswerk II (30 min.), where she meets eight art mediators, including museum directors, art historians, gallerists and an art advisor. The art mediators are Flor Bex, Liesbeth Brandt Corstius, Deborah Campert-Wolf, Anny De Decker, Rudi Fuchs, Lily van Ginneken, Wim van Krimpen and Henk van Os, the intermediaries between the artwork and the public. In looking back at their life with art and towards the future, they tell us about their love for art.

In addition, a variety of works of art will be shown from the mediators’ own collection, including works from Wobbe Alkema, Yvonne Dröge Wendel, Günther Förg, Ed Gebski, Erik van Lieshout, Hermann Nitsch en Tomas Rajlich. Works once bought, donated, given or exchanged, demonstrating how they literally take their love for art home.

In her work, Margriet shows the passing of time within her objects and her working method. She recently made two portraits of each mediator by means of the time-consuming technique of gum printing. These portraits will be shown for the first time within the exhibition.

Time is essential in Margriet’s work. What is time with regard to man and his (mortal) body? She portrayed centenarians, gave a new life to existing infant death portraits and followed the deathbed of her own mother. Levenswerk II is a follow-up to the 2013 Levenswerk I de kunstenaars. This film shows portraits of nine artists in the final phase of their working life: Roger Raveel, Loes van der Horst, Ger Lataster, JCJ Vanderheyden, Henk Peeters, Ata Kandó, Nono Reinhold, Co Westerik and the recently deceased Armando.

The exhibition will take place from August 9th until September 20th 2018 at the Art Gallery of De Nederlandsche Bank, Westeinde 1 in Amsterdam. An appointment needs to be made either by e-mail (kunstcommissie@dnb.nl) or by telephone (020-5242183).
Visitors will be asked to show valid proof of identity
