Scarlett Hooft Graafland, upon invitation of De Nederlandsche Bank, created an exhibition with works of artists that have inspired her. She spent time with some of these artists during the realization of her projects in remote areas. They are being introduced to the Netherlands for the first time. In others she recognizes the concern for human life. Caring for others, for the earth. In all cases the biggest inspiration originates from the stunning beauty of the works, however strong the underlying political and ecological involvement may be.
With the title Amongst Treasures Scarlett Hooft Graafland is complimenting her colleagues and simultaneously winking at the genius loci - as De Nederlandsche Bank houses the national gold reserve. By doing so she shines extra light on the other value of art, which is symbolic and immaterial.
Scarlett is showing three of her own works, that each in their own way connect to works of the other artists. Her ephemeral sculptures in bright landscapes possess a sparkling charisma. It is exactly this sparkling charisma that gets reflected back and forth. That is what treasures do; they let each other sparkle.
