After the death of James Lee Byars

An exhibition compiled by Berend Strik in honour of James Lee Byars.

Berend Strik is one of the three artists who in 2014 were invited to visit the gold vaults of De Nederlandsche Bank on the occasion of its 200th anniversary. The exhibition celebrates the art of James Lee Byars and also features the works of other artists, including Strik himself.

Connecting people, ideas and sources of inspiration was the central theme of the life and work of Byars, a theme which also characterises the work of Berend Strik, who fuses his meetings with fellow artists, ideas and works of art into his own realm of thought.

The exhibition shows Byars’ work in the context of DNB. The connecting element is the stock of 48,960 bars of gold in the vaults, forming the essence of the exhibition as well as a reflection of the essence of Byars' art.

Participating artists: James Lee Byars, Berend Strik, Paul Goede, Hans van Houwelingen, Daniela Schwabe, Marcel Broodthaers.

Every Thursday, from 8 September to 6 October, at 1 p.m. during the exhibition, you are welcome to attend a seance by Paul Goede.
