2nd IACCCA Symposium - Berlin
Nov. 27 2018
Add to Calendar 27/11/2018 27/11/2018 Europe/Brussels 2nd IACCCA Symposium - Berlin

The 2nd IACCCA Symposium is to take place in Berlin on November 27, 2018. More information to follow shortly.

ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM

Reasons for commissioning art are manifold: to integrate art within the fabric and the modus operandi of spaces such as buildings, to celebrate significant historical events, to assign functionality to dedicated spaces through artwork, to enhance the environment and thus, to add relevance, inspiration, and greater creativity to its beneficiaries, to express a corporate, institutional or municipal persona, and to serve as a social dialogue.

This symposium will be an important platform of exchange for practitioners, from all points of the spectrum: commissioners (public, private and corporate), artists, architects, governing bodies (urban planners and municipalities) and the representatives of public interest groups.

A series of speakers will cover the whole life cycle of commissioning art: from the publication of calls for interest to the choice of artists; from dealing with authorities/mandators, to production, conservation, and restoration. There will also be sessions dedicated to sharing best practice and articulating public policy. Together, academics and art professionals will put into contemporary context historical developments and explore new meanings of commissioning contemporary art and the role of art in public space today.

A networking event will take place after the symposium, to allow all participants to further exchange. The symposium will be open to professionals and participation will be free of charge.
