About the company

DZ BANK AG

2001

International presence:
Presence in 15 countries

Annual revenue:
DZ BANK Group’s profit before taxes reaches € 2.87 billion

Number of employees:
4000

Profile of the company:

DZ BANK AG is the cooperative financial network’s central institution  and serves more than 900 cooperative banks, by which it is majority owned. Furthermore, it is also active as a corporate bank and functions as the holding company for the specialized service providers in the DZ BANK Group. With its extensive range of financial products and services the DZ BANK Group supports the local cooperative banks in Retail Banking, Corporate Banking, Capital Markets and Transaction Banking.

In September 2020, the Board of Directors of the DZ BANK AG established the Art Foundation DZ BANK as a non-profit limited liability company to make the collection, which has existed since 1993, more broadly accessible to the public. This laid the groundwork to cement the foundation in Frankfurt’s cultural landscape. Through its museum space, the Art Foundation, an independent institution, connects with other exhibition houses and at the same time makes its non-profit character tangible. With its biennial grant, the Art Foundation supports artists of all ages who explore photographic forms of expression that break down the boundaries of genre. In so doing, it takes on the responsibility of fostering current artistic processes, showing the works of the fellows in an exhibition, and incorporating those works into its own collection.

Each year, three exhibitions feature socially relevant topics. Through collaborations with universities and institutions from science, research, and art, current discourses are addressed. Presentations in other exhibition venues in German-speaking regions display photographic approaches alongside other artistic materials in order to question, and open up, a dialog around the boundaries between genres.

The Art Foundation’s diverse outreach program encourages an exchange of viewpoints and inspires contemplation through our art tours for all age groups, workshops, continuing education for teachers, opportunities for students, and collaboration with schools and universities. Conferences, lectures, and discussion series also enable scholarly and interdisciplinary reflection.

The Art Foundation is another building block with which the DZ BANK fulfils its social responsibility. By cultivating artistic expression, communicating it and making it available to the public free of charge, the DZ BANK simultaneously makes art a living element of its corporate culture. The Art Foundation grew out of the DZ BANK's extensive collection, which focuses on photographic works from 1945 to the present.
