About the collection

Launch year:
1976

Number of artworks:
1.000

Status of collection:
International

Artistic domain:

The BPD Art Collection was founded in 1976 and consists of 1.000 works of art in all disciplines from the 20th and the 21st century, with emphasis on fundamental painting, new figuration, new sculpture and neo-expressionism, and contemporary international art. The collection was created to offer employees a stimulating working environment and make them look at the world differently. In addition, BPD considers it important to take a social position to support the cultural climate.

In 2010 the collection policy has been sharpened to relate more to the core business of the company. The more recent purchases include works of art which deal with architecture, urban and public space, or artists who deal with the relationship between their work and space.

In addition BPD integrates arts into their area developments through BPD Art Projects, which ranges from the realization of art works in public spaces, relocating existing art works to developing a temporary arts and culture program on a specific location. To embed BPD Art Projects in the company, every year an artist is also commissioned to create a work for the BPD Art Collection. This is not a scale model or a literal translation of what has been created in the area development, but a stand-alone work related to the commissioned work.

BPD also has the BPD Culture Fund which supports art and culture projects throughout the Netherlands.
