About the collection

Launch year:
2000

Number of artworks:
450

Status of collection:
International

Artistic domain:

The Sorigué Foundation collection brings together more than 450 works by international artists, and is considered one of the most prominent private collections in Spain.

The Collection seeks a specific focus on different aspects of artistic creation, articulating itself through unique works of each artist's production, thus generating small sets of works of great quality and interest, key in the trajectory of the artists. These groups include large format works by Anselm Kiefer or an important representation of Willliam Kentridge through his films and drawings and a very representative selection of Bill Viola videoart. Doris Salcedo, Colombian sculptor, is also the protagonist with a remarkable group of works, and Julie Mehretu, Ethiopian artist, is also represented with a couple of large format works. Also remarkable is an important group of works by Antonio López García. Among these, names as Anish Kapoor, Juan Muñoz, Cristina Iglesias, Miquel Barceló and Jaume Plensa are also represented. The criterion for acquiring a work is based on the quality and contribution of it to the existing set.

The collection is characterized by a strong educational vocation that is substantiated in an intense work of activities parallel to the exhibitions and in an active policy of loans to national and international entities.

In the gallery located in Sorigué's headuqrters in Lleida, the Foundation has developed since 2012 several temporary exhibition tourning around artists of the collections: "Antonio López en la Fundació Sorigué", "Wim Wenders. Photographs", "In the beggining was... Chiharu Shiota", "Oscar Muñoz. Des/materializaciones" and "Mat Collishaw. The end of Innocence". the Foundation has also developed in 2019 an exhibition in Madrid establishing a dialogue between Museo Nacional del Prado, the Royal Botanical garden and the collection: "Mat Collishaw. Dialogues".

Commission program / Site-specific order(s) :

The growth of both the collection and the business group led to a debate that brought together experts from art and architecture, and concluded with the foundations of a new project that is now a reality. The PLANTA project combines our vision of corporate future with our social responsibility vocation, our values, and our growth axes: talent, innovation and responsibility.

PLANTA is a space where art, architecture, science, innovation, talent and business meet and live together, located in Sorigué’s La Plana del Corb industrial complex in Balaguer (Lleida), a setting that is emblematic of our origins as a company and that embodies our values. Extractive activities coexist at this location with traditional agricultural processes, centers for research and the dissemination of knowledge, as well as one-of-a-kind, site-specific artistic and architectural spaces.

PLANTA is a space dedicated to contemporary artistic creation. Through the Sorigué Foundation collection, PLANTA has spaces for art known as site-specific, that are unparalleled in the world, exhibiting works by recognized artists such as Anselm Kiefer, William Kentridge, Juan Muñoz and Bill Viola.

In PLANTA, invited to develop creations designed exclusively for this singular landscape: Wim Wenders, Chiharu Shiota and Armin Linke, among othrs, are currently developing their specific projects.
